Happy Halloween!!!

After I got Bregon off to his Halloween Homecoming clean dressed and in one piece, I had to focus on my next task at hand. I had to ready the tiny trio o terror for their Halloween festivities! They had no idea what awaited them, even though Bregon had done well preparing them for it by letting them watch every Halloween special they could find on television that day! I managed to finally locate all of the Halloween costumes and get approval from each child that it was in fact the ones they wanted to wear for the evening. Kian decided at the last minute that no self-respecting Pirate King would be caught out in a Thomas the Tank Engine outfit, so he said no to his and insisted upon wearing an extra Pirate hat instead... This "extra" Pirate hat was something he discovered on the front porch in a box of Haunt props that we don't normally use. It's really a Ramses Rubies Costume hat, but he felt it was a golden pirate hat, so he put it on on top of the one he already wears 24/7. While I was changing everyone and brushing hair and washing faces, we heard this horrible awful crashing noise. It sounded like a 4 car pile up hitting one of the telephone poles on Ockley, but that wasn't what it really was. Unfortunately, all the work on the power lines from the storms had taken its tole and our main transformer behind us that runs our block had blown. Just ducky! I had this HUGE sense of dread calling the power company, knowing that every truck in town had probably already crossed the river to help with the existing outtages from the Thursday storms and such. Luckily, the lady on the phone swore that they would have everything back on by 9pm that evening which was much better than I had hoped. As I hung up the phone, though, an sense of dread came over me. Kai was standing in front of me pointing his little boy finger at me saying "Lights broke! Fix it! Fix it NOW!" He has his preemiedome sensory integration disorder thingy that doesnt handle change well at ALL and it appeared to be kicking in. I tried explaining that the power company had to fix the lights, not mommie as I showed him how the light switches didn't work anymore. It served no other purpose but to make him begin to cry. He got progressively worse and worse the more we got the other kids ready for their night. Finally, after I readied the candy buckets for the trick-or-treaters, and gave mine their new pumpkins for their own candy, I ran outside and grabbed the big BIG pumpkin. I don't know what I was thinking, but it seemed interesting to the kids so I plopped it on the dining room table and took up arms against it. Yep, I grabbed the nastiest biggest butcher knife I could muster, my grandmother's jelly spoon and went to work sawing and hacking at that pumpkin. All of the babies just stood there in shock watching me as I gutted that poor pumpkin and tried emptying the guts into the trash can. Vivie was very disgusted and voiced her "EEEWWWWSSSS" loudly the entire time. Everyone was very interested to see me carving chunks out of it here and there because they had no idea what it was I was trying to do! Neither did I for that matter as it was dark as can be and getting moreso as we went along even though I was trying to do this by candlelight! I had no idea what that poor pumpkin was going to look like. It was soo dark I couldnt very well use anything to mark my way so it was all done via freehand with a lot of hope that it would at least resemble a face somewhat in the end! Lucky us, Husband had procurred a bunch of tea candles during the storm in case we lost power, so I had a huge supply to put underneath my pumpkin!!! I hauled him back out front, trio o terror trailing in all their Halloween glory, not a tear falling by this point, either! They were fascinated when I lit the candles and stuck their pumpkin on top of them. I had to take pictures of their reaction once I got him turned around so they could see! That pumpkin turned out too cute considering he was done freehanded in the dark just to make them stop crying! Now it was getting down to the nitty gritty. My babysitter was an hour late and it was looking like I was going to be flying solo on my own. I loaded everyone up into the stroller and decided to try and find some houses with electricity. I got as far as First Baptist before realizing that everyone had the power out, and that the stroller had a flat tire massively. So, I turned around with the idea we would go back, air up that tire and drive over to Greenway to trick or treat instead of trying to walk it. By the time I got back home, thankfully, my babysitter was there! Hooray! I had really thought we were on our own! So, she took the kids on to their trick or treat and I had to head back out to the show as duty called. The kids had a great time, and I got to creature for the first time since in about 10 years. In my first tour, I had 3 lost control of their bladders and one panic attack. The second tour went through a wall using their backsides because they were soo scared. After the third tour and several more puddles later, I ended up having to be pulled from the room so I could go out front as PR. Meanwhile, the kids all had a glorious time trick or treating and dancing the night away respectively!
