The HOLIDAY TREE...Politically Correct or Going Too Far???

Posted by Vulnadia on Nov 11, 2009 at 09:34 AM Some folks will not be having a Christmas Tree this year...nope they will be having a HOLIDAY TREE...In Kentucky this is causing quite a stir and there has been some talk of the possibility of the White House following suit. I am soo sick of people trying to rewrite everything to be politically correct. In fact, the politically correct movement sickens me to no end. All these people who get their panties in a wad over people saying MERRY CHRISTMAS or whatnot because they want to redefine themselves as different... I applaud the effort at people wanting to not offend everyone else, but where do you really draw the line at going too far?? I mean, why should I be expected to reteach years of conditioning that saying "MERRY CHRISTMAS" as a polite nice everyday holiday greeting is now like saying "STICK IT WHERE THE SUN DONT SHINE" to put it nicely or delicately as possible for sake of arguement!!! I just do not understand why people have decided to take offense at something like that. I mean, I do get offended when I walk into a place and am met with a group of people all but making the sign of the cross at me & saying "We're all Christian here" in the terms that mean GO AWAY YOU WEIRDO we dont like you're kind here sort of thing...but it only happens in places where they think they know me but really dont... But that isn't quite the same. I know that in that case those people thought they knew a little something about me & felt the need to react in kind...but to have someone think or feel that way out on the streets at Christmastime?? Really??? Has it really come to this after all these years?? I mean, I really don't like to see folks made to say HAPPY HOLIDAYS instead of MERRY CHRISTMAS just because they will get into trouble with their employers... It's awkward to begin with...ESPECIALLY if they are saying it just to be nice...like HELLO, HOW ARE YOU & what not... Seriously...does the world really have that much of a chip on their shoulder? I mean, I love love LOVE how Eloise goes shopping at Christmastime in the liveaction movie saying "MERRY CHRISTMAS HAPPY HANNAKUH" as if its the most natural thing in the world...but its indicative of where she lives... But nationwide??? Making it a discrimination issue??? Now we are to call a Christmas tree a HOLIDAY TREE??? I call it a Christmas tree & I am not even what most folks classify as Christian... My very very VERY jewish neighbors always called the thing they planted at Christmastime in their front yard a CHRISTMAS TREE & they are JEWISH...& hadnt any problem with it... In fact they always sent Christmas cookies & whatnot over at Christmas time and we always sent them something in return... Nobody got offended...well save for the year the Baptist Student Union at College decided to invite my cute little neighbor over to talk about her beliefs & the differences between Hannukah & Christmas for their Christmas meeting... I came unglued when I attended to show support not only to my dear friend who was an active member of the BSU but to my cute little neighbor who I have known & loved since I was a very young child... What happened to upset me? They actually proceeded to argue & debate the validity of her Jewish beliefs...and heritage...and traditions based on the idea that Christianity was the only true religion. It became a sort of trial...a persecution of sorts...it was ruthless, it was awful and it was downright rude. My cute little neighbor had no idea what she was walking into...her daughter inlaw had brought her as she was too old to drive at the time...and didnt know what to say or do... So, I stood up for them. I called them on their rudeness. I just could not believe people could be so heartless and awful. But in this day and age... a HOLIDAY TREE...is that really and truly necessary?? Will they be changing labels nationwide?? I mean, nobody tells me Happy Yule...yet I must say Happy Holidays to avoid confrontation...& have a HOLIDAY TREE instead of a Christmas Tree?? Why must everyone be soo weird about something that has been socially acceptable forabsolute years??? I just don't get it! What are your thoughts on the matter?
