Happy Birthday, Babies!

It finally happened! My tiny trio made it to their third birthday! I know it sounds odd, but it really is a huge milestone for them.
You see, from the very moment we discovered that we were going to have three babies instead of the usual one,we have worried and worked so very hard to make sure that our little people would be okay.
I know, I know, it sounds weird on paper, but seriously. The scariest thing I have ever done was have to carry my triplets to term.
Getting them there isn't easy and the first thing the doctors tell you is that the chances of actually having all of them or any of them are not good!
I ran that gauntlet somehow, managed to stay out of the hospital and mastered the foreign art of bedrest.
I proudly walked from the parking garage to labor & delivery on my scheduled c-section date, knowing that I had done the best that I could for my kiddos.
But with multiples, one goal completes and opens up a whole multitude of new ones in its place.
We conquered NICU and managed to get everyone home with little or no problem, in spite of my flunking delivery 101 on my part.
Then we made it through the end of RSV season that first few months. Once we were free to leave the house, we discovered that the one-seater stroller was not going to do the trick anymore now that the babies were about five months old!
We learned that nobody sets up their stores, restaurants or even bathrooms to accomodate strollers for higher order multiples and that for that matter, they don't really even fit into cars, vans and some SUV'S.
I learned that no matter what you do, the kids will get sick once fall rolls around regardless of if you keep them inside or not.
We celebrated our first birthday by ourselves and learned about the effects of pure sugar on little people!
We learned to all walk finally and most of the litlte people had teeth by their 2nd birthday.
Now, we are finally three. We made it without ever getting truly sick, or having any hospital visits save for a belated circumsion & tubes for Kai's ears.
Nobody had any real problems and now a whole new set of obstacles await us!
We can start trying to get out in the world a bit more, we can start trying school type enviroments, and potty training signs abound.
My kids are growing up so fast! I look at them and it is very hard to see those teeny tiny preemies that they once were.
Sure they are still a bit small. Vivienne probably always will be. But they have come such a long way! Happy Birthday my little ones!
