Little Monsters!

Posted by Vulnadia on Dec 31, 2008 at 03:34 PM For the past month or so, my tiny trio have been watching "The Polar Express" over and over again. But, somehow, they have developed some new bad habits, such as being demanding! I first noticed it with Kaiden when it came to his catching glimpses here and there of candy in the candy dish on the kitchen counter. He would stand in the middle of the kitchen and jump up and down in circles screaming, "CANDY CANDY CANDY CANDY CANDY" over and over again! He would cry of course if he didn't get any, and we were NOT about to give in because that would mean overly hyper baby boy in an overly active and bouncy child to begin with! We had thought that this was just an isolated incident, but, then, a few days before Christmas, it happened with Kian. I was innocently attempting to bake my Christmas cookies without burning them, a small feat unto itself really, given my bad track record with last year's batches (I burned every batch somehow in some fashion or another!) That's when I noticed that I was being carefully scrutinized by Kian, who was standing quietly in the opposite corner of the kitchen, watching my every move trying to figure out what it was that I was up to. Once I had dropped the cookies and had put them into the oven, Bregon came in and scooped him up to show him that he could see "COOKIES" baking in the oven. That was it, it did it! Kian now knew how cookies were made, and all he knew in his little baby boy heart was that he LOVED LOVED LOVED a good cookie and that he needed one RIGHT NOW! He started bouncing and vibrating and getting excited. He didn't understand that cookies do not happen instantaneously. The next thing I knew, he was screaming, "Cookies cookies cookies cookies" over and over again at the top of his munchkin voice. He just could not wait for them to finish baking, and then he couldn't understand that they were hot and couldn't be eaten until cooled, so there were a few tears of frustration. But, once they cooled (I had very thoughtfully taken one and put it on a plate and cut it in half so it would cool faster for him) he was a very happy baby boy. He had both halves clutched in each hand and ran off to enjoy them in a remote corner of the living room. The only problem is, that now, he expects me to make cookies ALL THE TIME! What's a Mum to do with my cookie & candy monsters? reply i just dont know where they learned it all from, though! i never have really let them have much in the way of candy- they even get teddy grahams & cheese nips in little packages on holidays instead of getting candy say in their stocking or at halloween or easter- but somewhere, kai caught on FAST about this business!!! & i learned the heard way once by thinking that a baby oreo would be okay to give them since it was a miniature one & only one each- WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!! they were up til like 4 in the morning bouncing off the sugar from that tiny oreo!!! & they had it before lunchtime!!!! i just try & keep everything out of sight if i can, but i baked cookies again last night...& they saw them immediately this morning- guess what breakfast was....i was not happy...but i can only hide soo much!!!! hoping the sugar fixation thingy goes away- knowing that it only gets worse with age though! ~Mimi
