POTTY POWER, The Last Chapter: Kai

If you've been keeping up, then you already know that I have 4yr old triplets, Vivienne,Kian and Kaiden.
It's been interesting trying to potty train everyone. To begin with, I'm of the potty training school that seriously believes that a kid will do it only when THEY are ready and able to fully understand what the parent is asking of them & communicate effectively back with that parent on the matter.
That being said, Vivienne watched a potty power video months & months ago and instantly figured out what the deal was, and never looked back quite literally...that was it, she had it down pat, even this night-night business.
Kian was a bit more difficult...sure, I had the bad idea to try it all at once at first...it was INSANE and I do NOT advise it at all with multiples. Go one at a time so you can focus on the child and their individuality...trust me, it's worth it in the end.
Kian had this fear of failure thing going on, and didn't want to give up his security blanket called THE DIAPER.
I set aside an entire week for him to go cold turkey (with verbal preperation the week before of course-no real surprises for a child, it isn't nice!)
And for Kian, this worked out pretty well. Of course I had to revamp the bathroom theme to piracy for him...after all only a pirate potty for the pirate king would do!
But, he got it, and had a HUGE celebration when he made it to Friday as a big-kid wearing big-boy britches.
Then we set a date for Kaiden to work towards acquiring HIS potty powers.
Kai is a horse of a truly different color when it comes to all of this as he is a creature of very few words.
But, I went off of the assumption that he understands and "gets" it as he showed me just that the week for Kian's trial run.
We had a bad first and second day, but we kept at it regardless of hours spent in the bathroom in frustration.
By the third day, he had found a pair of big-boy britches with James on the behind that he deemed most sacred....too sacred in fact...he refused to soil them...just cant bring himself to do it...
So, Kai had his motivation...that and the promise of HIS potty power celebration that Friday should he master his potty powers skills needed...and a TRAIN...that which Kai loves most in the world.
That was it, that was all he needed. He even devised a way to keep his little boy parts from spraying all over the place...it's quite funny, actually...
Since Kai is built very ...ahem...high up...higher up than most any I've ever seen, he must press down on it to guide his stream...
He does this with the candor and panache of Charlie Chaplin...complete with little flourishes and the occasional beep (tribute to Harpo perhaps? who knows!)
Sometimes it appears that he is writing his name on the inside of the toilet bowl, but who cares, he is doin it and keeping James dry and clean and that's all that really matters.
Friday came and it truly was Kai's potty power celebration day! I was soo worried we would have to put it off!
