Is It Okay For Kids To Drink/Do Drugs Supervised By Parents?

Posted by Vulnadia on Jun 26, 2010 at 02:03 PM Let me just start the conversation off with stating that while we are considered the "Cool" parents, we do NOT allow underage drinking or drugs of any type at our house!!! Growing up, there were parents who did, but ultimately, those parents were thought of as being a bit "Off." What do you think? Is it okay for teens to drink/do drugs at your house? Would you buy for your kids and their friends as long as you knew they were keeping it at your house where you could monitor it? I personally don't agree with this practice at ALL, but I have my own personal reasons as does my eldest (the child who fits the agegroup at the moment!) My neighbor is one of those types of parents who does allow this sort of behaviour and has footed the bill and thrown many a party for her kids. These parties are scary, dangerous (the kids park all up and down our street at odd angles making it nearly if not impossible for traffic to pass) and then they wont go home! They hang out on the sidewalks, they are loud, they toss their beer cans and cigarette butts over the fence into our yard or toss em in the yards out front all along the streets. They drive like maniacs when they try and leave (see blocked street info above for obstacle course idea) and then they come back tires squealing and windows down with bass blaring to have fights, arguements and break-ups at all hours of the night and morning sometimes.) I find the practice irresponsible and outright dangerous, personally. I don't allow my own child to engage in these activities, and most certainly expect other parents to respect that. But seriously, did you have parents who allowed this growing up or have friends whose parents allowed this behaviour? What did you think about those parents back then? Did you like it, or were you weirded out by them in some ways? Would you consider doing this for your kids somewhere down the line?
