Summer Adjustments

Posted by Vulnadia on Jun 28, 2009 at 01:04 PM It's finally acting like summertime outside and now it's come to the time where we must all make adjustments to allocate for the heat! Not only has camp started for my eldest, but not having any air conditioner really makes me have to rethink all baby outings. An old friend of mine died the other day while working out in the heat, and it has left a huge lasting impression or reminder of how dangerous the summer heat can be. I have started having to rethink everything we do because of it. I mean, if someone a few years older than me can get sick and die that fast in the heat, it could affect my kids really fast, too and I don't want to risk that! So, we only go places early in the morning now unless we absolutely have to do so. When I know that I must go back out with the kids in the afternoon heat, I go out and put the car visor up accross my windshield to keep the inside of the van from heating up as much so the fan can keep my back seat of my van much cooler. We now stay home more and play in our wading pool quite a bit. We always wear sunblock and spray ourselves down with OFF for good measure. Popsicles are our treat of choice over storebought Icees. If the kids want an Icee, I make them homemade ones using tiny bits of juice to flavor everything! My kids are having fun and haven't noticed the difference yet, thankfully! Hopefully we can all stay cool and still have some safe fun in the summer sun!
