What Will The New Year Bring?

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! I can't help but sit here and think, though, what whill this New Year bring us?
We have a new president, different than any we have had before really, even though folks have likened him to Roosevelt (we can only hope that it works out that way I suppose.)
The economy is less than stellar, in fact it's downright scary with everyone laying off the way they are and price of living skyrocketing and nobody really getting raises. In fact, cutbacks are everywhere.
The market isn't exactly stable, and the Feds don't seem to know what to do or how to handle anything which makes it even more frightening.
The cost of gas is down, but is that really a good thing? You have to wonder, really. And will we see any relief in the cost of our utility bills because of it? So far we haven't really.
So, this new year looks kinda grim, and that's just on a broad basis. Hopefully, here at home, I will find positive ways to look at everything in this unstable and iffy time.
I mean, I have a teenager now. Soon he will have to be taught to drive. He has started competing with his fencing, and is headed towards high school next fall.
My trio will soon be three. It's hard to believe that one, too! It seems like it was just yesterday that they were soo very tiny and couldn't fit into even their preemie clothes.
They do still have trouble fitting into their clothes, only now when they climb out of ther jammies through the neck, it has more connotations than it used to!
That is why we must buy packing tape and tape their diapers on at all times, I suppose!
We must start potty training soon, and really we are headed towards big-kid beds because it's all a farce letting them sleep in beds that we all know they are capable of escaping at any moment!
This year holds many uncertainties with work, especially since I am an independent contractor and cannot trust that my services will be needed for any of the jobs that I do.
I also have a resurrected theater in still in its fledgling state that must be nurtured and allowed to grow. But, in this unstable economy and an area where folks would rather spend their money on movie and popcorn instead of paying the same price to see a stage show, I fear that theater is headed towards becoming a lost art.
I mean, it costs the same, or really it's cheaper to go and see a stage production than it is to go to the movies, but it would seem that most folks in this day and age do not like to be challenged or feel the affects of good theater, succumbing to the safety of that celluloid media instead.
So, what am I to do? I'm a writer, but will they still read my work? What if I write for the stage instead, will the public be too shy or apathetic to come and see my thoughts and art when faced with the prospect of the stage?
I just do not know, anymore. I mean, ask the public if they would rather see a movie or a play, and then ask them the why of their answer and see what the result is. Are they intimidated by the stage or uncomfortable that they may learn something or feel something they didn't before in ways they never knew they could?
I look at my children and marvel at how they have grown over the past year and see the things that they have learned and achieved.
I write my friends who live in different states and countries and wonder what will become of all of us.
So, here I sit, poised on the brink of a New Year, wondering what it will bring us.
