What's That?

This week my trio had a rude awakening of sorts. Don't worry, it has a happy ending!
It's been raining A LOT lately as rainy season is late this year for some reason or another.
Up until the other day, though, thunder and lightening hadn't bothered my kids like it bothers most. They just didn't mind it.
Until Wednesday, that is. Wednesday, there was a flash of lightening, then the lights flickered, thunder crashed, and the lights went out. It didn't even last very long, but the damage was done.
EVERYONE saw it happen, everyone put 2 +2 together and realized the cause and effect of it all, and the babies are now officially awares that lightening and thunder can do something other than be pretty and make lots of noise!
Fast forward to Thursday afternoon, when the Blue Angels came buzzing into town as loudly as could be, doing fly-by's over our neighborhood.
Immediately, the babies assumed it was a storm and that it was going to be scary and get dark so they began to howl over all the noise!
What do you do? We don't live anywhere near Barksdale, so they have no idea what that noise is, or where it comes from.
All they know is that it sounds scary and much like the storm from yesterday! They can't see any airplanes up in the sky, and wouldn't really know what to watch for if I tried to show them!
So, I endured a very sad, very tearful afternoon of my kids not knowing what it was that kept making all that noise.
Nothing would soothe them, nothing made them happy. They were SCARED!
What could I do, really? I couldn't quiet the noise, and it was soo loud from them flying so very low that there was no way to drown it out any.
So, eventually it was time to fetch Bregon from school and a car ride was involved which meant very carefully going outside to the car, making sure no big scary noisemakers would get them.
They literally crept out to the van as if they were avoiding major warfare or something! It was very sad.
They did okay in the car ride because for a tiny moment, the planes had stopped.
When we got home, and were unloading the van, it picked up again. There it was in all its noisey scary glory, flying right over us again.
The babies all ducked for cover and screamed. Then I tried pointing out what it was that was making all of that noise.
Somehow, Kian managed to catch a glimpse of one of the planes as it flew away through all of the trees. He figured out what it was and tried to translate it to his siblings.
By the time they made it up to the front porch, they were all watching the hole in the trees trying to see a plane!
Kaiden was soo adamant about seeing a plane, he refused to let go of the railing and go inside, insisting that the plane was coming back to see him.
Kian was perplexed, saying, "Can't see em!" I managed to finally get them all inside because nobody flew back over for the moment.
Friday, I had to venture out to Target in Bossier in search of sandals for the boys since our Target was out of them.
We picked up Bregon, and headed over. While on the interstate, the boys sighted a cargo plane coming in right in front of us and really super low (it was about to land!)
This got them watching out for planes again, and happily! By the time we got to Target, the planes were all out practicing again, and the kids sat in their stroller in the parking lot for a while watching the planes until they flew away.
I had some happy kiddos for a time, there! Finally they learned not to be afraid of the noise and where it was coming from.
Now the big question is whether or not to attempt a trip to the airshow tomorrow or not.
I am worried about them burning badly because they are soo fair. Husband says just slap some suncreen on them, but that is how they ended up sunburned in the first place and they were only at a tree covered park at the time!
So the dilemma remains: airshow or not? At least maybe the next time it storms the kids will hoepfully think that it is just the airplanes flying low overhead and not be frightened anymore!
