Fencing Socks

Once upon a time, when I was a little girl, I loved reading the Shoes books. It's good to see them back in print, too!
That being said, it reminds me of something happening in my own life at the moment that makes me want to write a new book along that lines.
It would be called "Fencing Socks" and would be about the life of competition-bound fencers.
Our story started almost at birth because our son was born into a family of performers.
He grew up out at Renaissance Festivals. Quite literally he has been exposed to history, literature and stagework and all things that stem from these things.
My child also grew up knowing what to do with a sword. It's just part of life, our life!
He got his first sword when he turned five. He had already been training in application long before that using soft swords.
By the time he was seven, he was well versed in stage combat and became the youngest member of the creative combat team for the Texas Renaissance Festival to date.
The next step found Bregon making a grocery store discovery that would lead to him finding his place at the Fairfield School of Fencing where he trains to this very day.
He started competing last year, after spending a good year recovering from a wrist injury.
Somehow, he stumbled upon the idea that fencing whites are dull and quite boring.
To jazz it up, he started wearing those hideous knee socks found at target. For Christmas, i found him an awful pair of argyle skull black & red socks to wear,.
To celebrate his first competition on the Magnet Fencing Team, I found and have given him a pair of black & white skull socks and a back-up pirate skull set to boot!
Who knows what the weekend will bring as the competition is Saturday in Bossier.
But you can bet he will be wearing those fencing socks! Oh the things they will see!
