Back-To-School Night

Posted by Vulnadia on Sep 18, 2009 at 08:35 AM Last night, I had to go back to highschool!!! It was very very bizarre to say the least! For one thing, my friend goes with me as her daughter is in the same class as my son. She ALWAYS makes me sit in the very back of the auditorium like a proper delinquent, mostly because she knows that I tend to want to ask questions! Last night was no different! We sat back there and knitted and chatted about well, stuff! Classes were a bit odd for me as I found myself sitting in my old Algebra class with a teacher who was fairly new when I was there, but who is the Algebra God now! The weird part is that I was sitting next to two teachers from my old middle school... Way back when, they weren't married, and I must have had them all but straight out of college! It's too funny really because one of them hasn't aged at all and looks the exact same! You can imagine how weird that might feel, can't you? I mean, shouldn't they be teaching the class instead of sitting out in the student section with the likes of me? I had a great time, though. Now we are figuring out how we will swing homecoming. I will have to work the haunt that night (who the heck thought it was smart to have it on Halloween, I don't know, but its killing us all!) But, we want the kids to do the Ride & Dine thing where they take the bus to dinner & the dance & to an after party. In theory, this will be safer and more convenient for everyone...at least we think so...as long as it isn't a party bus, Bregon should be fine with it...I think... But I just don't know. I can't tell because he gets twitchy every time someone mentions possibly taking a bus to the JO"S when the time comes. I want it to be fun for him, not something he is upset or worried over! But what can I do? That damage has been done and can never be undone unfortunately. This morning when I dropped him off, some students were having a tailgate breakfast in the parking lot. I soo wanted to stay and play, really I did. I really miss high school! I had quite forgotten what a neat and different place Magnet really was! it really is a nifty place...i mean, we knew it was different when we went there, but soon you get used to it as being "normal" i'm a bit worried bout piano-man...anyone who names drops composers as if nobody has ever heard of them or should have known them personally rather, is kinda odd in my book- i mean, they are kids...the way to get em to play is to let em play things they want to play, things they love...this guy means well, but i have to wonder!!!! but he was being grilled pretty hard & heavy by this one mom on his teaching credentials & i felt sorry for him over that bit...she was a bit off on doing that!!!! i'm just soo relieved that they are actually finally THERE...he has been trying soo hard to like school always falling short & now he wants to be there, wants to get up in the morning, nags me if i'm the run dragging... & is happy overall...sure he has the usual teen kiddo issues...but he is happy for the first time EVER when it comes to school- he looks forward to his history class...even to his piano class even though he is petrified of failing it...even though he has an A... & then fencing room is his happy place...yay! ~mimi
