Potty Training Angst...Night Issues

Posted by Vulnadia on Feb 09, 2010 at 01:40 PM My daughter has been potty trained for a week now, no accidents... She's doing fantastic except for one minute tiny little problem... She doesn't sleep well anymore. Oh she sleeps, but not after many MANY trips to the bathroom just to make sure she doesnt have an accident. She sleeps very lightly and not well at all. She has been waking up with huge purple bags under her babygirl eyes and I really think it's because she is afraid of having an accident. Oddly enough, she sleeps in night-night panties (pull-ups) but she still doesn't want to get them wet/dirty and does her best to keep them dry and clean and actually feels badly if/when she has an "accident" in them. So this puts me in quite a quandary. I want her to stay dry and clean and not have accidents in her panties, but at the same time, we all know what that pull-up is for. So how do I explain to her that it is okay if you have an accident? I have never gotten angry or mad at her or punished her for an accident (we had 2, one of each the day we started, but that was it, it was only a learning tool really.) But at this point, how do I ease her fears so that she can sleep better? Has anyone else run into this? I can't tell her hey it's okay to potty in your night-night panties, but at the same time that's what they really are for! She is very proud of her track record and treasures her Potty Prize that she gets at the end of each day (her sticker). But every time I look at her little eyes, it makes me want to cry because I know she is taking this waaaayyy more seriously than most 3yr olds do! Any suggestions on how to solve this one? actually the boys are in diapers- they arent ready yet actually nobody gets a pull up (which they dont understand is nothing more than a glorified diaper, they think its big-kid pants & dont realize its absorbant) but nobody gets one to wear at night UNLESS they stay dry during the day & use the potty & act like a "big kid".. vivienne wears a pullup & calls it night-night panties but she keeps it dry & apparently is worrying over soiling it while she is asleep!!! last night was considerably better- i take the extra back-up potty seat & together we place it in a spot in the upstairs bathroom & set out an emergency bit of TP just in case she needs it & it worked last night...no tears or hysteria so maybe i'm on to something who knows!!! now if i can convince kian its okay to try wearing big kid pants sans a diaper...he is just too careful!!!! ~Mimi
