Supporting The Arts Locally

Posted by Vulnadia on Feb 22, 2010 at 12:49 PM Do you support the local arts in our area? Lately, there has been a marked decrease in the coverage our local arts organizations are getting for events in the area making it more & more difficult for artists to get the word out, ESPECIALLY to those that might like to participate and give support but that might not hear about it through the avenues the artists have had to resort to using to "Spread the word" so to say. So, do you actively seek out and attend local arts events such as live & local community theater, touring company productions that come through The Strand, locally produced movie showings at RFC (usually these are free or at minimal cost), art markets at the Barnwell Center, gallery showings at our area museums etc.? I get info and updates through my facebook friends which is a HUGE way we like to promote our art & events, however, we want to try and get the word out to people NOT on our friends lists etc. So many free, low cost and neat events happen locally that some folks never even realize are happening. I know I like to take my eldest to as many events as I can muster. Heck, he has even participated in a few things such as choreographing stage combat pieces for The Gilbert & Sullivan Society Productions and has even had a few of his pieces hang in local art shows. Soon, it will be time to start taking my trio to age appropriate things. Are you familiar with what is going on right now and how to find out more? Let's share our views and ways we find out what's going on locally! I use sites such as wickedtickle.com, shreveportbossierfunguide.com for example to find out what is going on locally as well as my friend contacts on facebook. What do you use?
