The Coolest Mom In Town

Posted by Vulnadia on Nov 26, 2008 at 03:11 PM Wow, I had to plan Bregon's 14th Birthday party on the fly because it came so shortly after the close of our major fundraiser. In fact, it seems like every year, I end up planning his party on the fly for some reason or another, poor dear! One year he even had to have his part during our work-day at the Texas Renaissance Festival. We did that one totally in our Faire characters out in the lane at the artillery garden. We served period cakes, cookies and even used period dishes and cups (rules are rules!) This year, I was seriously disapointed in myself because all I could muster was the usual sleep-over. Then, I had the bright idea to pick up a few more airsoft guns from Academy with the idea that we could add them to our collection, and take the boys out to the Haunt building for a nice evening of playing the "Gotcha" game. Who knew that this idea would become such a hit? At first, the kids had no idea where they were going. I mean, we told them where we were taking them, but it didn't sink in that it was a haunted house building until they pulled up and saw the hearse parked out in front of the building. While nobody was looking, husband hooked up a remote controll to one of the room's lighting, and the fun began. The kids went round after round playing with those airsoft guns all throughout the maze, learning to use the trapdoors as they went. They really thought something was up when the lights kept turning themselves off and on all night, too! After a few hours of this, they headed back to our house for cake, icecream, and pizza & presents. They seemed to have the best time. How do I know? I have never been told by another person's child that I was the coolest Mom in town, before!
