A Piece of Toast!

10869 posts Posted by Vulnadia on Aug 09, 2009 at 04:42 PM I don't know what happened. Why it was just last night that we were nuking cheese dip and bean dip and all sorts of other glorious party foods. Then, innocently enough, Bregon got up this morning and set about his daily ramen ritual and popped his bowl of ramen into the microwave as usual and hit the start button. That was when it happened. No, nothing caught on fire, THIS time (he has been known to forget to put the water into his ramen before nuking it for 3 minutes... The microwave started up with its normal 3 minute countdown to his tasty morning bowl of Ramen when it just popped and stopped doing ANYTHING! It doesn't keep time. It refuses to light up. It can't even muster a beep, poor thing, and it was barely a year old, too. So, today, I set out on a mission to find a new microwave, again. I ended up at Walmart, much to my chagrin. But, they had one that was in price range and even one with higher wattage than a college dorm one. I grabbed the last of the real, house-type microwaves and headed for home. When we got it home and out of the box, we made a startling discovery. Our microwave came with a metal rack to go inside of it. Not only that, but it has a heating element in the top of it, as well. Oh boy, this one looks even more flamable than usual! So, after I fed the babies, i decided to give it a spin with a piece of bread- just to see what happens. I got out a pyrex pie-plate and a piece of bread and set it gingerly on the metal rack in the center of the microwave. I closed the door, wincing as I hit the correct buttons and it began its countdown. I couldn't close my eyes because I would need to hit that stop button should it begin to spark or even flame! I watched in half-horror, half-anticipation as smoke filled the microwave, but there were no sparks flying... I opened the door and tested my piece of bread to see how it did. Essentially, it's now toast. Yep, I can''t believe that I just made toast in my microwave of all places! How weird is that?
