Role Model's & That Archaic "Disney Standard"

Posted by Vulnadia on Aug 13, 2009 at 07:56 PM This week has seen the advent of Miley Cyrus supposedly pole dancing during an award show. I watched part of the footage and just didn't see what "They" saw though. What it looked like to me was a pole stuck on a prop meant to help the poor soul on top of it not fall off while being pushed around the staging area! Besides, if that was pole dancing it sure wasn't the club variety, that's for sure! It made me wonder about role models and that old "Disney Standard" that everyone used to be held to when in such a position. I know the world has changed and standards along with it, but used to you had to be squeaky clean to even work at Disney World/Land even if you never saw the light of Tomorrow Land Day so to say! So what is it with them forgiving behaviour such as the nude photo incident with Vanessa Hudgeons of High School Musical franchise or even Miley Cyrus in her Hannah Montana glory? Is there no standard as to what is appropriate for children as role models anymore? With the advent of Bratz dolls and the blatant loss of that "Little Girl" phase that well, little girls used to go through where they wore bows in their hair and smocked dressies and maryjanes, what are we teaching our kids? Now we put them in pageants where they are taught to wear makeup from early early ages and that pretty wins the prize not brains and smarts. Even Beauty Queen standards are changing. Ms Universe is posing topless and nobody is worried about it. How are we going to raise a "Lady Baby" if the definition of the very word "Lady" seems to be changing faster than we can turn around? Check out this article on Ms Universe & tell me what you think about all of this! Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza to pose topless for Maxim
